Mystery is what makes space intimidating imo. The Xel'naga are explained now, the big evil is defeated, and a whole lot of mystery is just kinda gone. And obviously Amon is a garbage villain.įor me personally, the whole Amon plotline killed a lot of depth in the SC universe. There aren't really any different motivations and values involved because it really comes down to "I don't want the universe to be devoured because we'll all fucking die" for everyone. We don't really fight people in SC2, we fight Amon's mindless minions, which takes away even more potential emotional depth.

The thing is, nobody gives a shit about the universe because we know that it will in fact not be devoured, so not much is really at stake emotionally. It takes the Marvel approach of big bad entity in the void that will devour the universe. It's very real themes but in space with aliens. In Brood War, the factions fight each other, there's different motivations, goals, values, then there's betrayal, politics and intrigue. The reason Brood War feels heavier and SC2, especially HotS and LotV, feel a bit lighter is the general premise and what is at stake. r/wow /r/diablo /r/hearthstone /r/heroesofthestorm /r/overwatch Same- and similar-topic submissions that exceed 4 per top 25
